God’s word, or doctrine, is central to understanding a vital text that separates the saved from the lost as given in Titus 3:10, “A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject.” Many people think they know what a heretic is, but outside the Bible, a clear definition is illusory. New Bible translations most often make a heretic to be someone who causes divisions in the church.

Satan, the master of reversal, has turned the spear of heresy upon God’s faithful followers and has even pointed an accusing finger at Jesus Himself. After all, Jesus did not deny, but acknowledged that His doctrines were divisive. “Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth?” He asked, “I tell you, Nay; but rather division” (Luke 12:51). According to the new translations, then, Jesus is a heretic and must be rejected. And in fact, in an effort to unify all religions, that is exactly what has happened.

This is an appeal to all Christians in all denominations to seriously consider the life and death issue surrounding what it means to be a heretic and be forever separated from God. The Bible’s definition of “heretic” differs from the popular definition. Contrary to popular belief, according to the Bible, if you have rejected Bible doctrine, you are a heretic and will be eternally lost. This sobering truth must be considered by all in the ecumenical movement who are setting doctrine aside in favor of unity, because in doing so, Jesus, the One who is truth, is also pushed aside.
